Jesus is the Prince of Peace

Helping another resident get settled while Jonathan leads worship

Earlier this month I (Theresa) had the privilege of going to Anna Club! I don’t always get to go in this busy season of life, but all 5 boys were having the time of their lives at “Nana Camp” in Texas with Jonathan’s family.

As we were visiting room to room, we heard a repeated cry for help. With the nature of nursing home ministry this is not necessarily unusual to hear. This time, however, I felt compelled to stop and go in the room. I could sense she was afflicted and troubled in not just her mind and body, but her spirit as well.

I asked how I could help and she said she wanted to go home and she missed her mom. I took her hand, looked in her eyes and asked her, did your mom know Jesus? To this she replied, “I don’t know.” I then asked her if she herself knew Jesus, to which she replied that she did not. After getting her name I asked her, “Do you want to know Jesus? He is the Prince of Peace and He will give you peace that is abundant and peace that passes all understanding!” She said she wanted to know Jesus. I led her through the sinner’s prayer slowly, and she clearly repeated each phrase.

At the end of the salvation prayer I had her pray, “Jesus, fill me with your peace.” Suddenly, the moment we commanded peace to come, it felt like there was a small wind and the room felt completely different. She was no longer crying or troubled and completely in her right mind. She was calm, alert, and her whole room felt peaceful.

I invited her to Anna Club, and she said she wanted to go, so I asked a worker to help her into her chair so she could come. Shortly after the prayer meeting began she was brought in, and she continued to be alert and calm and at peace the entire prayer meeting. I’m not sure if this was her first time asking Jesus into her heart, but one thing I do know is Jesus truly is the Prince of Peace and He is the peace that can come and live inside of us. This is available to every believer every moment of our lives!

I introduced her to the rest of the residents and asked them to remind her throughout the week of God’s Word. I sense that she doesn’t always sleep well at night because of fear and afflictions. I told her I want to get her an audio bible because I know that the Word is powerful and effective and can completely change the spiritual atmosphere in a room and bring peace. When I was a young girl into young adulthood, I sometimes had trouble sleeping at night because of fear and what helped was playing worship and audio bible quietly throughout the night.
