Hope City

Bringing God’s Hope to the Inner City

In January of 2016, after serving for 12 years on the Nightwatch at IHOPKC, we felt called to join  IHOPKC’s inner city ministry Hope City. Jonathan spent three years living across the street from this ministry 2010-2013 in one of most dangerous neighborhoods in Kansas City. During that time, his heart felt increasingly drawn to help make night and day prayer happen while serving the poor. Since that time, Hope City has grown into praying now 24 hours a day, five days a week crying out for revival to shake the inner cities of America.

Community Center: Daily Lunch & Food Pantry

hopecity-092514-dd-82-1Hope City, located in one of Kansas City’s toughest neighborhoods, is often a place of refuge for those living on the streets, and for those in need of safety, rest and shelter. Our Community Center is open to anyone multiple ethnic groups, young and old.

Hope City serves as a daytime shelter, offering daily coffee, lunch, showers, and free WiFi. We serve lunch daily Monday thru Friday from noon to 1 p.m. An evening meal is served Monday and Friday nights at 7:30 following the Church service.

Each Wednesday afternoon our team fills grocery bags and distributes them to each person that comes. We received this testimony from Kim and her family of 6:

Hope City Food Pantry literally gets us through each week and continues to feed my family when the food runs out.  I have been coming here for 5 years and I don’t know what I would do without this place!”

Hope City’s Trade-Off-Program (T.O.P.) is a faith based in house program offering two 90 day back to back tracks to those struggling with addiction and other life altering circumstances. T.O.P. represents the “Trading-Off” of our addictions to receive the life and power of Jesus Christ. The first 90-days involves a schedule designed to help detox and train participants to do the basics of daily living. They will get up at the same time everyday, show up on time and be diligent with their assignments. In addition participants receive training and equipping in the Bible, new recovery skills and learn how to build healthy relationships.

The program is centered around the prayer room. Participants spend at least four hours a day in prayer. As they sit before the Lord, God does the work that no man can do transforming their hearts and healing wounds of the past. At the end of the 3-6 months many participants leave transformed and delivered.

Our second track offers leadership skills, goal setting, learning to work in a role or position at Hope City. Opportunities include music, sound, culinary work, and small group leadership.

If you or someone you know is struggling with meth, cocaine, heroin, prescription pills or alcohol then the work that God will do in the Trade-Off-Program might be the answer.

Youth Ministry

The mandate of Hope City’s outreach to the youth is to train and equip them in the things of God while meeting their everyday needs. Many are homeless and are struggling within the family context to have their basic needs met. Here at Hope City we meet that challenge everyday, and turn it into an opportunity.

Our goal is to take those who have the least and give them the most. We do this by providing Bible instruction, teaching them to pray, offering Life Skills and helping them by providing everyday necessities. Most importantly we seek to meet them right where they are with one on one friendships and personal relationships to help facilitate maturity and growth.

Bi-Weekly Church Services

Hope City Fellowship Church extends the love of Jesus Christ into the community of which we are a part. We aim to grow in passion for Jesus and compassion for people.  Rooted in the love of God and His Word, we desire to love and obey Him, to have fellowship with each other, and to minister to others in the power of Christ.
We welcome all to come as they are, and join in the community gathering together to worship Jesus and to enjoy fellowship together. We gather Monday and Friday evenings at 6 pm followed by a meal together.

24/5 Prayer Room

Since Hope City began, over 24,000 live hours of prayer and worship with 780 intercession sets has impacted inner city KC. Hope City is a 24/5 inner city ministry that seeks to bring social justice to the community by maintaining a House of Prayer. Jesus said in Luke 18, “that we are to cry out night and day for justice to come to the earth.”  Hope City’s central ministry is its prayer room.  We believe that intercession allows us to partner with what God has ordained for the inner cities.

Our worship is agreeing with who God is and intercession is agreeing with what He has said He will do to bring justice to the earth.  Praying to a God Who hears us is the answer to every need. We join together with one heart and one mind in prayer for salvation and for the power of God to be released in our City.

The Prayer Room provides a safe place for people to heal while they sit in the presence of God.  Total transformation takes place: body, soul, and spirit.  Hope is restored as they are introduced to the living God who hears and acts on their behalf.  The transformation then becomes a testimony to the community that the power of God to redeem.
